Why use round backdrops

Thursday March 20, 2025 - by errer backdrops

Round backdrops are an invaluable addition to your photography toolkit. It offers a unique and versatile way to showcase different settings and atmospheres. Round shapes are perfect to mimic the typical cozy bistro table setup. They allow you to create a wide variety of ambiences, making them ideal for different types of photography, including restaurant photography. Furthermore, they provide the opportunity to experiment with various angles and lighting techniques, resulting in a more diverse and dynamic collection of images.

What you need for shooting with round backdrops

For shooting with our round designs you need a round table or table top in matching size, which you can easily buy online. As long as it’s stable for your set. Once you have a table or table top you can vary with all the designs we offer in round shape.

For our Ø 60 cm size backdrop we used our table we bought on Amazon and for our Ø 80 cm size we have a table top we purchased online at VidaXL.

There is no need to buy an expensive table. However, the color and texture of your table top can play a role in your photoshoot. Our Ø 60 cm table top is brown in wood texture and is incorporated in some of the photos taken from a 45 degree angle. Perhaps this is something to consider when buying a table (top).

Size backdrops

There are two sizes available; Ø 60 cm and Ø 80 cm diameter. The Ø 60 cm is ideal to mimic a bistro setting for one or two persons to sit on. This size will be perfect for most photoshoots and is the easiest to work with, styling-wise but also height-wise when shooting flat lays and when you want to include floors. Furthermore, we can simply add this size in the shipping tube along with your rectangle 90×60 cm shape backgrounds.

But we also offer a larger Ø 80 cm size, which can be used for a wider setting with more plates and more hands in frame.

Floors

Depending on what floor you want to use for top down shots, you will need to consider the size of the backdrop and lens you use. You can use our round backdrops in so many different ways, but a C-stand is essential when it comes to shooting the entire table. For creating flat lays with the entire table visible Maja used the 50 mm lens and incorporated two large size 90×135 cm backgrounds from our collection to use as a floor. Post editing might be needed to connect the two backdrop floors. Tiles are a bit more challenging than e.g. two neutral textured backdrops. If you use your own floor or bigger size floor backdrops, you can use a different lens e.g. 35 mm or other wide angle lens. Then you can place the camera closer to your scene.

If you are only photographing a part of the table for a flat lay shot, you just need one large size floor or probably even a regular size backdrop can work as a floor depending on how close the shot is.

Extra tip:

To keep your round backdrop in perfect condition, store it flat to prevent any creases or folds. This ensures a smooth and professional look for every photoshoot.

To introduce our round backdrops we have had the pleasure of collaborating with Maja Lewicz @veggie_intervention, a talented food photographer and stylist based in the Netherlands, who has extensively tested our new product shape.

Her experience and feedback have been crucial in showcasing the versatility and creative potential of these backdrops. Maja’s expertise in food photography has highlighted how effectively our round backdrops can enhance the visual appeal of various settings, from cozy bistro scenes to elegant restaurant tables.

Maja’s experience

”I had the pleasure of trying out the new collection of round backdrops from Errer Backdrops. My overall impression is that they are a fantastic addition to any photographer’s backdrop collection. What I love about the backdrops is that they add great variety to your portfolio. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating a bistro or restaurant atmosphere with them. You can shoot from a 45 degrees or straight on angle to capture stunning cocktails, drinks and taller dishes, or go for a flat lay perspective to capture that cozy table scene with hands in the frame. What I really enjoyed when shooting with these backgrounds was combining them with the other backgrounds in the Errer collection. When shooting flatlays, I paired them with one of the stunning tile backdrops, which created such a unique atmosphere in the photos. The round backdrops come in two sizes: Ø 60 cm for smaller scenes and Ø 80 cm which allows you to capture a large table scene with lots of dishes and people at the table. These backdrops can also be used during restaurant shoots, which is another advantage of adding them to your prop collection. It’s true that you need a round table or a tabletop to shoot with them, but going the extra mile to get one is really worth it for what you get back in return. All in all, I highly recommend any food photographer to try the round backgrounds, they are available in a variety of patterns and colors and I found them very easy to work with.”
